A recent report seemed to indicate that former XBOX exclusives such as Starfield and the recent announced Indiana Jones and the Great Circle might be coming to other platforms. This comes off the recent rumors that Hi-Fi Rush, another Game Pass and PC exclusive may be coming to Nintendo Switch.
Now it has been confirmed that Hi Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves are coming to "competing platforms." The news of XBOX putting their games on other consoles caused certain parts of the internet to implode. Twitter threads and countless YouTube videos are now cropping up all over the place claiming that XBOX is going Full Third Party, and that that the brand itself is going exsintct, even going so far as assume that the Microsoft-owned brand would just stop making gaming consoles altogether. There also some very reactionary posts on Twitter/X from some users completely jumping ship off of XBOX, some showing them selling their consoles, making the argument that there is no reason to even own an XBOX.
Understandably so, Phil Spenser took to the internet, posting a response. "Were listening and we hear you," he said in a post over on Twitter/X. Now in the same platform, he has announced they are going to addressing this issue with this Thursday, which is tomorrow as of this writing. While the response is good way to calm the absolute chaos, it also brings up an important question: Why is everyone so upset?
While it's certainly understandable why some could be worries about their digital library, its more about a para social relationship with a console -- and ultimately, people should be rest assured that your games are not going anywhere. A new report confirmed that Phil Spenser told employees that XBOX will still continue to make console hardware as part of its on going strategy.
Hi Fi Rush coming to other platfoms and other titles like it is only going to be good for gamers. Hi Fi Rush has 2 million players as of it 2023 -- a number earned by digital sales and Game Pass subscriptions. That number will likely go up if that title is also coming to Playstation and Switch.
While the gaming community at large won't know all the answers until tomorrow -- its pretty clear that XBOX plans to release its titles on other platforms. This the first time however -- Cuphead and Mine Craft were formally XBOX exclusives were also released on other platforms after a initial exclusivity period, I don't think that XBOX is going away anytime soon.
